Morrissey Comments On Margaret Thatcher

Ex-Smiths frontman Morrissey has continued to make negative comments regarding former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Thatcher's funeral was held today and was subject to controversy within the British public, with millions of pounds being spend on the funeral, despite the government continuing to make cuts. Morrissey is well-known to dislike Thatcher and the way she ran Britain during her ruling, however surely her family deserved a little more respect when it came to the funeral?

Morrissey has never been shy about putting his opinion across, however if a member of his family had passed away, I'm sure he'd be first to criticise the British public if they were making negative comments while he was trying to grieve for his loss.

'Ding, Dong, The Witch Is Dead' went to #2 in the charts recently, following the death of Baroness Thatcher, and BBC controlled the situation well.. with respect, but it seems as though Morrissey, 53, could not control his opinions with the same respect for both the deceased, and the family of the deceased.

This is not a matter of whether you are a fan of Margaret Thatcher or not, it is simply a matter of respect... Morrissey, you have gone down in my estimations.

Jack Brown,

Hard Vibes.

  1. I completely disagree. Respect? Respect has to be earned. Did Thatcher respect the miners? The people in the communities she tore apart? The family of the 96 victims of Hillsborough? Or the hundreds of Argentinian soldiers who were unjustly killed? etc. No. So what makes you think she deserves respect in death? You are in the minority with your views, Jack. All Morrissey did was articulate what the majority of Britain is thinking or trying to say. This is proven by the fact that Ding Dong got to number 2 in the charts, the BBC's refusal to play the song and it's incredibly biased coverage of Thatcher's death is not respectful to the many victims of Thatcher's legacy. He has gone up in my estimations.

    1. I agree respect has to be earned Thatcher on the miners well..those who where around will recall the Unions took the miners down a very bad road & it cost them dearly. The unions where holding the Government & the people of Britain to ransom.

The Argentinian Soldiers that lost their lives is sad as is the fact of the British soldiers that you failed to mention!! When soldiers sign up they know the risks involved & I know many soldiers who would & will put their lives on the line for this Country.

As for Morrissey he always picks his moment to spout off just to get the attention & as for the song you are way of the mark. People who downloaded this would at a guess be no older than 30..the same people that have no idea what it was like during the Thatcher era..as an older guy i found it offensive but i've learnt to let it ride as it will soon be forgotten...as they say yesterdays news is tomorrow chip paper!!

    2. I mentioned the Argentinian soldiers who died and didn't mention the British soldiers because I was specifically referring to the Belgrano, which was sunk even though it was retreating. They did not sign up for that, that is unjust. And you cannot know much about Morrissey if you think he has chosen his moment to get attention, he has stated his hatred for Thatcher since the 80's, ever heard of Margaret on The Guillotine? Finally, because I don't really want to go on forever with this, have you ever considered that people who were not alive at the time might still be affected too? Does the destruction of Britain's industry and it's working class not a anyone's future who weren't there at the time? Most of my family were miners. Do you really think that Thatcherism ended when Thatcher left office? There are so many things that come from Thatcher's time in office that effects people who were not there at the time.

  5. Is this a joke? If it's not then sorry but what utter bullshit! I have a lot of respect for what Morrissey has said about Thatcher, her horrendous legacy and the ridiculous coverage by the BBC. I have no respect for Thatcher and I never will.

  6. I am not stating that I agreed or liked Thatcher, however.. every family deserves to grieve without comments such as Morrissey's, do you not agree with this?

  7. "Her mourning family must have considerations that were never shown to the families of the Hillsborough victims" - Morrissey. Everyone is allowed their opinion, she was a divisive character, I'm sure her family were prepared for opposition.
