You may remember a few months back, we
at Hard Vibes listed George Henry King as 'One To Watch' in 2013. Well we
caught up with GHK recently, and this is what was said..
George, you seem to be doing well for yourself in
the music world, what's new in terms of your music?
Thank you for that, although I always
wish I could be doing even better to be honest! I'm never really satisfied you
see - In regards to whats new in terms of my music, I've been writing quite a
lot more recently, even if it's just little bits here and there or new lyrics -
not always full songs but parts that eventually end up in a song or start the
birth of a new song. The most recent songs I have wrote though are 'The Kissing
Song', 'Worse Off Than You', which is quite different to all my other solo songs
and 'If You're Here For Love Then Join The Queue' which I first played live
when I recently supported The Rifles at Colchester Arts Centre. That
was definitely my best gig to date and was extremely great to be on the same
bill as such an established band who have played with the likes of Paul Weller
and one of my favorite artists, Miles Kane. Next few gigs I have
coming up will be at The Islington, Camden on March the 5th with Alan Jones and
Catrinas, The Hole in The Wall, Colchester on March the 10th then at The
Fiddlers Elbow, Camden on April 8th.
You've had your tracks played on the radio, how did
this come about?
Yes, Silhouette Trees and the song I
wrote for my band, Picnic For Two - Basically I uploaded Silhouette Trees to
the BBC Essex Introducing Uploader and then it was lucky enough to be played on
one of their shows by Ollie Winiberg. Picnic For Two however wasn't as straight
forward - we uploaded it to the BBC ESSEX Uploader and it never got played - so
I thought I would upload it to BBC Suffolk instead and we were lucky enough to
have it played by them instead who seemed to really like it even though we
aren't from Suffolk....but no one has to know that....
Do you have any big plans or ambitions for the
future?
My next plan really is to finally
record a debut EP which I still haven't got round to doing despite the fact I
have had a lot of the songs I think would feature on it for a good year or two
now. I would have done it sooner but then after forming Buzzards I ended up
focusing a lot of more time on the band and recording an EP with them which was
the first actual EP I had ever done with anyone so yeah a solo EP is definitely
the next thing I want to do although maybe I could just go for the big one
straight away and record a full album...who knows! I'd say my main ambition for
the future is basically to just to keep writing as much music as possible and
keep putting it out there as much as possible, hopefully resulting in more and
more people being exposed to me as a solo artist and my music. I'd love to
start doing more and more gigs as good and as big as the support gig with The
Rifles too, that was really good fun and definitely a brief look into how good
it could, and hopefully, one day be.
As
you’ve been on the radio, you’re clearly attracting a lot of attention.. are
you hoping for a record deal in the near future?
I'd be lying if I said I wouldnt love
a record deal because it would help me so much in regards to recording and the
distribution of my music and I think its a majority of musicians dream to get a
record deal whether it be with a small indie label or a major label - but if I
ever did get a record deal it would have to be with someone who entirely backs
whats Im about and what Im doing - if they wanted to change anything about me
or my music then that wouldnt be the record label for me.
You’ve
written a lot of songs already, but which is your favourite?
Ooohh favourite song ive written? Thats a really really tricky one! Silhouette Trees is by far one of if not the most popular one at the moment amongst audiences at gigs but I'f have to say my personal favourite for the moment would have to be either The Future Is Foreign to Me or my newest track Worse Off Than You purely because its quite different anything else ive written for myself and its I like how the lyrics are delivered at a fairly quick pace in parts.
Thanks
George.
