Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds or Beady Eye?

Ever since Oasis split back in 2009, the “Noel or Liam” debate has been ringing in the ears of the nation’s music fans. Liam was the first to bring his new project to the table, announcing that the remaining members of Oasis would be starting a new project, Beady Eye. Liam was quoted as saying “Oasis are done- this is something new”, however from listening to their record “Different Gear, Still Speeding” (2011) I’m not sure it is a new project, it appears to simply be Oasis without big brother Noel.

Beady Eye have shown the Britpop world that the talented of the two Gallagher’s is, of course, Noel. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (NGHFB) have been extremely successful, with a 2x platinum selling self-titled debut record. Almost every track on the NGHFB record could have been released as a single, immediately encapsulating the listener, resulting in sold out stadium areas such as London’s 02 as well as huge crowds at festivals such as V Festival, T in The Park and Isle Of White.

After the split of Oasis and the formation of new project, there were divided opinions on whether the Gallagher’s should play Oasis tracks on their set list. Noel’s opinion was “I wrote the songs, why shouldn’t I play them”, but Liam’s opinion was “I’ll let big brother play them to death first”. ‘Don’t look back in anger’ and ‘Half the world away’ are often notable hits on the NGHFB set list and Noel has recently been quoted as saying “I’d get paid when Beady Eye play Oasis hits” showing that Liam does not really have a choice in the matter unless he wants to back down and pay royalties to his own brother.

As an Oasis fan, it is sad to see the feud between the Gallagher brothers, but I believe that Noel has always been the more talented of the two, and it is beginning to show in their new projects.
