SOS have received some rave reviews in the past, from the likes of Sunday Mail, "5 stars. Phenomenal." and The Guardian "A spittle-flecked call-to-arms" but at Hard Vibes we are struggling to justify these reviews.
The very Scottish sound of SOS is of selective taste and appears to lack in creativity lyrically, although the catchy chorus to 'Carry on Suzie' is an exception to this. We can see why a band such as SOS will be popular in the UK, although it just does not stand out to us.
The 5 piece, formerly known as "Strawberry Ocean Sea" have supported some big bands such as Glasvegas, Mona, Toy and Peace along their way so far, which indicates either that many recognisable names in music like their tunes, or they simply have a good manager.
'A Challenge To The Dark' is not "Bad" music, however it does not make me wish to dance, nor does it twang any heart strings. The Scottish Sun disagree with what I have stated, claiming SOS are "unsigned superstars", which makes me think, am I missing something?
Track Listing:
1. Today's The Day
2. A Challenge To The Dark
3. Carry On Suzie
4. Under The Moonlight
5. Hometown
On the plus side, I received this EP in the post and the packaging is very impressive.
